| Reinforcement |
The reinforcement shall be rolled steel bars, drawn wire or welded fabric as specified and shall comply with BS 4449 or BS 4461 and for fabric reinforcement BS 4483. High Yield Design Strength = 460 N/mm2 (indicated as Y followed by the diameter on drawings). Mild Steel Design Strength = 250 N/mm2 (indicated as R followed by the diameter on drawings).

Walls & concrete

Minimum compressive strength for hollow blocks shall be 1.5 N/mm2 of the gross area. The net plan area of any hollow concrete block shall be not less than 60 per cent of gross plan area. Cement sand block shall be 190 mm in height by 390 mm in length

Portland Cement The cement shall be ordinary Portland cement complying in every respect with BS 12 at the time of use Sand The sand shall be clean, hard, sharp, coarse grit, pit sand of god strata and from approved sources, or sand delivered from crushing suitable gravel or stone, and shall be free from coagulated lumps, soft or flaky particulars, shale, crusher dust, silt, alkali, loam, organic matter or other deleterious substances.
Coarse Aggregates The graded coarse aggregates shall be crushed hard basalt stone, clean, durable, free from soft, porous organic matter or other deleterious substances. Aggregate graded so as to wholly pass a 20 mm gauge mesh and be retained on a 4,5 mm gauge mesh. Water for making or curing concrete or mortar shall be clean and free from oil, alkali, earth, organic matter in such amounts as to impale the strength or durability of the concrete and mortar and obtained from a source approved by the Engineer.
Concrete The concrete shall be a mixture of 1:2:4
